Coronal Magnetic Field Tools and Models II: Nonlinear Force-Free Models

Leader: Marc DeRosa

In this session we will discuss non-linear force-free coronal magnetic field models. The candidate models will be discussed, along with the associated issues of how to perform the preprocessing and validation of these models. We would like to determine which model to run, and how often, taking into account the uncertainties in the resulting magnetic field models. For example, would running one of the three candidate models once per hour for each active region be useful? Or would it be better to run all of the different models less frequently? Or would it be better to hold off running these models automatically, until their validity can be better established. To do these calculations, we need vector magnetic field data (as a boundary condition), H-alpha data (for the preprocessing), EUV images (for validation), as well as extrapolation codes and a loop-tracing algorithm (for the validation). Is there anything else?
