JSOC DRMS/SUMS Operating Environment

The Stanford JSOC group is a Linux shop. Specifically, Fedora Linux. Stanford University is a Unix shop in general.

At present the DRMS/SUMS software is supported on linux operating systems on two architectures:

The present Solar Group machines that fit these categories are:

where cl1nXX is the older JSOC cluster and cl2nXX is the newer cluster.

We strongly recommend that new users restrict their JSOC use to the machines listed above.

Many but NOT ALL individual workstations also can be used.

Due to what we are sure are temporary problems (July 2006) programs compiled on one machine (or in one of the families explicitly listed above) can only be run on those same machines. In general the binaries are not portable across even machines of the same type. We have too many differences in libraries etc. and the programs must now (bug mentioned above) be linked using shared libraries. So for now you must use one of the machines above or check with Keh-Cheng Chu to see if your workstation can be used. This problem occurs only when you compile with icc.

In order to use DRMS on your own workstation you need to have the file systems /hmi0, /hmi1, and /hmi2 mounted. Along with these you must have links pointing into them named /SUM1, /SUM2, ..., /SUM5 Ask Keh-Cheng Chu or Brian Roberts to arrange this - if your workstation has passed the Keh-Cheng test.
